The SIGDA Board continues to review and adjust spending to improve SIGDA's financial position, while maintaining services to SIGDA members. SIGDA members can look forward in the coming new year to the forthcoming SIGDA Multi-Media Monograph on Ambient Computing, and the new Super Compendium that will contain all the published literature from all SIGDA's sponsored conferences, workshops, and symposia, back to the published beginning of each event. Members can also look forward to new installments of the University Booth, Cadathalon, Ph.D. Forum, and Design Automation Summer School in 2004. At DAC 2003 another successful U-booth hosted 60 students from 40 different institutions. A 20% increase over 2003. The Ph.D. Forum, also held at DAC, received 120 submissions and accepted 45. The Ph.D. Forum is looking for reviewers for 2004. Interested parties can contact Soha Hassoun. This year's 2003 ICCAD Cadathalon had 38 applications and the sponsors included SIGDA, IBM, and Intel. Expect changes for next year, as the Cadathalon looks to a more dynamic format. This summer, SIGDA will again sponsor another installment of the Design Automation Summer School. DASS information will be available soon. Contact Soha Hassoun for details. The SIGDA E-Newsletter is seeking a corporate sponsor. A corporate sponsor will receive acknowledgment for their sponsorship in each SIGDA E-Newsletter. Contact Diana Marculescu. The SIGDA Monthly Planner will now be updated in January and attendees at both ASP-DAC and DATE will receive the most current Monthly Planner. Contact John Karro to have your event listed. SIGDA's flagship transaction, TODAES, is seeking papers. The Board is also looking for a new Editor, as Mary Jane Irwin will be moving on to new challenges in the near future. ACM has also announced a new Journal on Emerging Technologies in Computing (ETC) with a focus on Nano-Technology and Nano-DA. Dennis Sylvester of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor received the 2003 ACM SIGDA Outstanding New Faculty Award, which includes a cash award of $10,000. Two recent graduates were received the ACM SIGDA Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award at ICCAD 2003. The SIGDA Travel Grant program will now be focused on awards to applicants that have a significant financial hardship. Other SIGDA events will also see reduced travel funding, and will focus on assisting participants with a financial hardship. The ACM Digital Library has about 300,000 downloads a month, with 29,000 individual subscriptions and 38 large university and 14 corporate subscriptions. SIGDA members have free access to the SIGDA portion of the ACM Digital Library. While there will be no SIGDA Board meeting at DATE 2004 in February, there will be a Member Meeting at DATE 2004, and of course the June 2004 Design Automation Conference will be in San Diego California, where members will be welcomed at the Ph.D. Forum and University Booth. Check the 2004 DATE and DAC programs for times and locations. Richard Auletta ACM SIGDA Secretary/Treasurer ========================================================================
